Lets make it simpler. The initial spread is a bit less because its cooler. If it had been summer over there I fear things would be different. As it is.. now you have time to deal with the flu.
As for next winter and spring and summer you may expect to find the flu spreading more as expected. And people will of course be more affected because of low immune systems and cooler weather.
