What is a bigger theat to human’s lives?
The news seems to mention illness, violence, and accidents/weather as the three big causes of death on a regular basis. In Mexico there was debate between avoiding the cartels while still trying to avoid catching H1N1. Still I remember the tsunami in Sri Lanka but also the Tamil Tigers bloodshed being mentioned also. And of course there is the inner city (Chicago, Los Angeles, etc) gang violence (killing with guns, beating to death) in this country along with the fear of catching the swine flu and the vaccine shortage. Sometimes I think each event is emphasized as the news releases it (bad weather, hatred with weapons, illness). The one common thread thru all this is distress. People are just as afraid of being killed as they are of getting sick. Human leaders can’t fix every situation that comes up. Obama in the White House didn’t suddenly make all U.S. citizens millionaires just like pro athletes or couldn’t prevent Annie Le from being murdered.
